RECITAL
The students at my piano studio have the opportunity to participate in a variety of creative projects throughout the year. Here are some upcoming events.
Performing is a wonderful experience for students where they can develop confidence and poise while having a moment to shine for their friends and family. Our recital will be held in November 2016. Location to be determined.
RCM PRACTICAL EXAMINATIONS
RCM exams are not for everybody. For those that wish to participate, I am committed to providing my students with opportunities to be examined each year. The goal is challenging, but satisfying and motivating for most students. I use the Royal Conservatory of Music system and my students have been very successful. Examinations take place three times a year - spring, summer, winter.
RCM THEORY EXAMINATIONS
During the student's lesson time, I devote time to music theory instruction. As students advance in their lessons, along with the RCM piano exams, I also recommend including formal theory instruction and taking the RCM Theory Rudiments. To cover the material, students will need to add an additional 15 minutes to their regular 45 minute lesson time for the entire year or come for a weekly theory lesson. The levels are as follows:- Basic Rudiments (co-requisite with RCM Grade 5)
- Intermediate Rudiments (co-requisite with RCM Grade 6)
- Advanced Rudiments (co-requisite with RCM Grade 7 and 8)
STUDENT RECORDINGS
This year I am implementing something new. Once a year we will record special piano performances. It is wonderful to see the student’s progress from year to year.GROUP PIANO CLASSES IN LIEU OF PRIVATE LESSON
Periodically through the year, a week is devoted to Group Piano Classes in lieu of private lessons. Small groups of students with similar abilities will meet to perform for each other. We may also play music bingo, rhythm games, do crossword puzzles of musical terms, sight-read simple duets, study composers, and generally have a fun, social time.
